Extended School Year (ESY)

The Extended School Year Program at CAA provides a 30 day extension of the academic school year for students to maintain both academic and behavioral/emotional success. Too often, regression happens over the traditional summer break, and valuable time is lost due to re-teaching in the early months of the school year. The student’s Child Study Team and parent make the determination regarding the need for extended school year services. CAA provides the following services during the extended school year:

  • Continued instruction in language arts, math, social studies, art, physical education, and technical literacy
  • Project/field trip based curriculum - aligned with the New Jersey Core Content Standards (see curriculum)
  • Behavior modification program based on the Coping and Accountability Model (see about us)
  • Credit completion for high school student (upon district approval)
  • Individual counseling (see support services)
  • All related services as needed (see support services)

Equine Assisted Learning Program- CAA is excited to introduce this new program. Horses are used to assist students build social/character skills which will empower the participants with confidence that will translate into everyday human interactions. Horses are used because of the positive influence they have on people. The benefits of work ethic, responsibility, assertiveness, communication, and healthy relationships have long been recognized. Horses naturally provide these benefits. For more information, click on the link http://www.eagala.org

The professional staff at CAA realizes that most students reject the thought of “summer school”. With this in mind, the teachers strive to make learning fun by incorporating group projects and field trips with “traditional” classroom instruction. Enrollment in the ESY program is also open to students who are not currently enrolled at CAA.

For more information about the ESY program at CAA, please call us at  (856) 691-6667.
